Cushions, Hearts and other Woolly Crafts

For Christmas 2020, during the pandemic, I decided to make my family and friends cushions for with pads full of soft washed wool from our flock of Hebridean & Castlemilk Moorit sheep. This meant I didn't need to shop on the high street to protect myself and my family.

I hand washed the fleeces several times & then machine washed on a wool cycle and used this beautiful soft, natural fibre to fill my cushion pads. (The pads can be reused, once you tire of the cushion cover, or change your colour scheme.)

Then, choosing good quality fabrics in appropriate prints, I handmade each family member a special cushion. They were all loved & cherished and from that point the word began to spread.

I have been busy making cushions, hanging hearts and other woolly items ever since.

I have been commissioned to make memory bears & cushions as well as shower proof cushions for outdoor furniture all filled with my wool.

I make door stops, draught excluders, needle-felted animals etc, peg loomed seat pads, rugs & cushion fronts too.

I have an Etsy shop, (click to open) but if you message me directly, I can help with any of your ideas or requests, guaranteeing that your purchase will be totally unique.

I move into my 'Sewing Box' in the garden, ready for Spring, Summer & Autumn.

It’s a little wooden cabin that I can escape to & there I think about nothing but what I am designing and making. An added bonus is that I can enjoy the garden at the same time.

My aim is to use as much of the wool that is sheared yearly from my beautiful sheep and produce something that will be loved for many years to come.

They are sheared for welfare reasons & their wool is shamefully undervalued.

It’s a gorgeous soft natural fibre that is biodegradable, sustainable & holds it’s shape much better than other cushion fillers. It’s naturally fire retardant, fire resistant & hypoallergenic.

It really is a shame that we do not use wool more in our homes.
